THE HOUSE, A HUB OF CONNECTED OBJECTS
The market for IoT in homes is ever-expanding. From waking you up slowly, preparing the perfect breakfast, clearing the table and then cleaning the floor automatically, home automation might provide a morning we all dream about!
The market owes its rapid development to the increasing amount of connected objects. By 2020, we might reach around 50 billion IoT devices in the world — in the health field, the automotive field and in home automation.
These objects can offer data points. To be relevant for our every-day lives, these data points will need to be analyzed in an intelligent way.
A CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE: ALEXA, THE AI OF AMAZON WHO INTENDS TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE SMART HOME
IoT objects should work in harmony, and not separately. A connector, an artificial and central intelligence, should link them. The two main players in the home automation market are Amazon Echo and Google Home. Alexa, Amazon’s artificial intelligence, is already a step ahead of their competitor. Amazon aims to integrate Alexa into the automotive sector, in the household electrical appliances, in gardening and home automation.
The voice command is to become the new digital interface. Amazon is already using this technology to differentiate itself. Smart cities need smart citizens – the home automation space, and in particular Amazon and Alexa – should be watched.
