Parking in cities can take hours. Several apps have tried to address this, including Parkeon’s free Path to Park app to help Parisians. It will locate parking areas available. They use powerful statistical calculations to do this based on big data. This data is collected from timestamps in Paris. They are looking to launch in a dozen cities. This will help make sure that parking spots are not empty for long. The less people driving around, often times angrily, trying to find a parking spot, the better.
As cities expand more and more, traffic has become more of an issue. There are major infrastructure projects that can help address this – better bike access, more efficient road designs, broader public transportation, etc. Projects like this can won’t solve a city’s traffic problems, but they certainly help address some of the issue, in a very cost-effective way. This makes them very worthy of investment from smart cities.
